A Community Development Project: Even though most programs have always been a third world project, with what the world is going through now with Covid, we are seeing more and more 1st world countries doing this now.
Many people, especially the 1st world citizens, sometimes feel there is negative connotation or stigma attached to it, but they should realize it is there for everyone’s benefit done by concerned and well-intentioned everyday citizens.
What does this entail?
- 1) EDUCATION: Most outreach and CDP programs starts with educating the public that not only is in need of these programs but those living in close contact with them and those who help.
Without the proper education to everyone, stigmas, hatred, and even xenophobia rear it’s ugly head and can be very dangerous not just for those in need but for those who help as well.
- 2) LOTS OF HARD WORK: Putting together something like this is not just sitting back and delegating.
From the management running these programs to the person on the floor who volunteered works, and works hard,
Going out there to Community Development Project, businesses to look for the tools, whether it is food for a feeding scheme or building material to help a community build a safe haven for the homeless and sometimes even creating a childcare facility for single parents who has to leave their kids somewhere while they job hunt.
It all gets done by these hardworking individuals, some educated in that field and others just with a big enough heart and wants to give something back, no matter what it is.
- 3) GOING OUT THERE: So by walking the streets, so to speak, they not only get help but also reach out to the very people that need their help and build up a repertoire with them that will make it easier for them to accept help while all is running smoothly, as even though some people might need the help, they tend to be too proud to accept it no matter how bad their situation is.
So social work plays an important role before and after the projects get off the ground.
- 4) WORKING HAND IN HAND: Everyone, and I mean everyone pulls their weight in a project like this.
As mentioned above some people “do not want charity” so they are roped in with the fact that they can help in return for the help they get by reaching out to others and helping set up or run the project.
