Unlike sewing, in machine and uniform embroidery there is almost always a differentiation between the lower and upper threads. The thread from the sub-string will always be a yarn that is much thinner than the upper one to guarantee the softness of the embroidery. It is a yarn resistant to draft and very often prepared to increase its ease in unwinding and guarantee a homogeneous embroidery.
On the market, you can find various types of yarn for polyester or cotton sub-sheave, more or less thin, sold in two types of packaging: in the classic rock from which the bobbins can be obtained or in pre-rolled bobbins already ready either on wire or with the cardboard box.
The choice of this type of yarn will always apply because it remains one of the materials constantly presented in your kit, so try more than one type and always evaluate that the adjustment is optimal with the tension of the machine.
A well-made uniform embroidery is often seen not only from the forehand but also from the reverse side of the work, in which the thread of the sub-string must be present for a third of the embroidery.
In some machines, there is already a drawing that allows you to control the tension of the yarn under the spindle; it is actually a series of lines made with a thrown stitch that allows us to evaluate the quality of the embroidery.
Once this test has been carried out on the obverse we should only look at the upper colored embroidery thread and on the reverse we will see that the sides of the row will always be with the upper embroidery thread while the center will consist of yarn for the sub-string.
Once the optimal thread has been found, always use the same to be sure not to have to adapt the thread pull acting on the screw present in the lower looper. As for the yarns, the choice of the needle also plays an important role: to simplify, let’s say that in the needle we find an upper part called the shank, a stem with a groove, the eye and the tip. The shank is the part of the needle that is inserted into the vice of the machine’s needle bar.
It has a cylindrical shape and can have a longitudinal section to facilitate the exact positioning of the needle in the machine. You must pay attention to the type of needle compatible with the embroidery machine: those that have a completely cylindrical shank are often suitable for machines for industry while in those for hobbies we will be facilitated by the presence of the reference mark for correct positioning.
