Common PCB Inspection Techniques

Common PCB Inspection Techniques

PCB Inspection and Testing is a process used for determining whether or not the boards produced through electronic manufacturing processes are in good condition. PCB’s are typically used in all types of electronic circuits, such as computer circuits and microprocessors.

PCB manufacturers and other assembly service providers are doing different kinds of PCB inspections at various production stages. Here are some of the methods they use to evaluate PCB boards.

Test & Fix Program

This program is a program offered by various assembly service providers to conduct random tests on the boards they receive. To be eligible to run the program, the service provider should have a certain number of production samples for testing. Once the testing organization has approved the program, the testing service provider will send the sample board(s) to the testing facility.

QA & Tester Program

It is similar to the Test & Fix Program. However, it also offers services like testing, troubleshooting, and analyzing the boards received from the testing organization. As the testing process is going on, the testers will be sent a sample board to test. If the testing is successful, the service provider will submit the board to the testing center for further testing.

Qualified Specialists Program

It is also called the Test & Fix Certification Program. The program is used to determine the competence of the testing service provider by testing the quality of their test results and their ability to handle multiple projects.
The program involves sending the testing samples to a testing center and having the testing center verify the results.

Check for Service Provider Certification Program

The service provider is provided with a document certifying that the service provider is certified and met the requirements to provide this particular service. When you are going for PCB inspection services, make sure you go to those testing services who hold these certifications and provide you with references. You may find many local companies in your area that offer these PCB inspection services at low rates, and you can request a quote for your projects.

Some other methods may be used in the testing and validation of the PCBs, but these are the most commonly used and popular among PCB manufacturers. This is just a brief discussion of the three widely used methods in PCB Inspection. You can talk to a PCB manufacturer to learn about all the processes involved in the complete PCB inspection activity.
