How To Clean Reusable Food Pouches

Reusable food pouches are perfect for feeding babies. These reduce the mess that might otherwise come about if you jump into using a spoon and a bowl right away. If you are trying to wean them off milk, then you will have to make the transition as smooth as possible. Pouches have small openings that are similar to the nipple in milk bottles. Babies can suck on this as well to get the food. They can also squeeze on the pouch itself to help things along. Once they are done, the pouch can be reused for another meal. However, make sure that you clean it thoroughly before adding a fresh batch of baby food.

Rinse Interior with Warm Water

Remove the cap or unzip the lock to open up the interiors. Get warm water and pour this down into the pouch until it is filled halfway. Do not fill it up all the way to the brim because you need a bit of air inside to allow the water to slosh around. Close this up and shake vigorously to dislodge most of the residue from the pouch wall. Pour the contents to a sink and observe its color. It will probably look murky during the first few attempts as the food has mixed with water. You may need to do this several times until the water comes out clear. This means that only a little bit of residue remains.

Use a Bottle Brush to Loosen Residue

You want a thorough clean because any residue can spoil over time and become a home for bacteria. This will make the baby sick. You have to dislodge any remaining baby food inside with a bottle brush. This has to be small enough to fit the entryway. A tiny toothbrush or even a makeup brush might do the trick if you don’t have anything else. If you want more effective tools, then check if the manufacturer of the pouches has made a cleaning kit available. Dip this in soapy warm water before brushing the pouch interior. You might also want to brush the mouth of the pouch as this could have residue as well.

Air Dry Upside Down on a Dish Rack

After rinsing the interior and exterior to remove all of the soap, you can finally let the pouch dry. Just place it upside down on an open dish rack so that gravity will pull any remaining beads of water down and out of it. Wait a few hours until it is completely dry inside before you try to fill it up with Reusable food pouches once again.
