Save On Energy Bills – Handy Tips To Save You Money

With all the ways people are save on energy bills these days, you can’t help but wonder what you can do to start saving. Fortunately, there are some simple ways for you to make sure that you save on your energy bills, and these things do not require you to invest in any heavy tools!

Seal All the Gaps

You can do several things to keep your house warmer and use less energy during the summer months. First, seal up any gaps around windows and doors. You can buy weatherstripping at most hardware stores or online. It’s also important to use weatherstripping on your gutters and downspouts. When water accumulates in these areas, especially during the hot summer months, it heats the groundwater and makes it harder for the rain to flow.

Replace Light Bulbs

Replace incandescent light bulbs with compact fluorescent light bulbs. These energy-efficient bulbs are available at most stores, and they’re a good price. Compact fluorescents use less energy than traditional incandescent, and they are available in many different wattages. If you replace your incandescent lighting fixtures with compact fluorescents, you’ll save a lot of money on your energy bills in the future. Incandescent light bulbs also make great window decorations, and if you put them in your favorite rooms, visitors to your home will think you’re retro.

Fix Air Leaks

Seal any leaking areas around windows or doors. There are two common places you can find leaks; around fixtures such as heaters and between ceiling tiles or carpeting. To save energy and money, seal any areas where air leaks are common. A little duct tape can go a long way when it comes to sealing air leaks around your house.

Turn Off the Lights

This saving tip is obvious but something that most people don’t follow. Turn off your light bulbs when leaving a room. Light bulbs take up less energy than incandescent light bulbs, so if you don’t have a lot of lighting in a room, consider changing to CFLs. CFLs are about 75 percent efficient when compared to incandescent light bulbs, so if you want to make your house more energy-efficient, replace your light bulbs with CFLs. To save on energy bills, even more, remember to always turn off your lights when leaving a room.

These simple tips will help you bring down your energy bills. Another great idea is to replace your old, cheap appliances with energy-efficient ones.
