Body hair is natural. Everyone has strands growing all over them. We may be used to seeing long hair on our heads but not so much on other areas that are considered taboo. For example, women might be uncomfortable with bushy hair above their lips. Others may want to get rid of hair around their underarms and bikini area. The legs, the arms, and the chest are also frequent targets. Even men may want to remove excessive hair for aesthetics or for sports. This can be accomplished in different ways with different results.
Shaving
You can get razors for a low price. As long as they’re sharp, they should be able to cut hair as they go across the skin. Use a good brand to ensure blade resistance to corrosion and safety features to reduce the risk of skin cuts. This is a quick and easy way to deal with excess hair. However, the strands tend to grow back fast and thick. You will need to keep shaving every few days. The skin also tends to get bumpy and tender after the shave. The blade may damage the skin and make it sting when the area touches water or sweat. If you don’t want these side effects, then use other methods for permanent hair removal.
Plucking
You will have to pluck the hair out one by one in this scenario. Since some areas can have lots of strands, it may not be feasible to use this method on all parts of the body. Plucking is good for bushy eyebrows, minor underarm growth, and the like. It will be too cumbersome on hairy chests and legs. You will waste a lot of time and put yourself in an extended hurt locker if you do so. On the other hand, you can take out the hair for the roots which means regrowth is slower than with shaving.
Waxing
For large areas, you may want to use waxing instead. You can do this at home or allow a trained staff to do it for you in a clinic. They will apply hot wax to the area, cover it with a fabric, and allow it to cool. Then they will peal off the wax in a swift motion taking all of the excess hair along. You will be left with a clean skin albeit you might feel quite sore for a while. The best clinics are able to reduce the pain through proper technique.
IPL
Lastly, you may want to consider IPL which uses high intensity light to affect the roots below. The light will cause chemical changes that prevent hair from growing back. The longer you use this form of treatment, the thinner and sparser the hair will become. The first few treatments will need to occur a few times each week. After a while, you will only need to do it once a month for maintenance. The effect is not actually permanent hair removal but it is close enough since you won’t need as much upkeep as in other methods.
