Periods are a fact for life for women. Most wish they didn’t have to deal with it because of all the inconvenience and pain but it is an important part of the reproductive cycle. It’s a good thing that so many products are not available to make it easier to manage. For example, heavy cramps can go away with painkillers and disposable menstrual pads can absorb the discharge for better hygiene. Many prefer disposable menstrual pads because these are easy and convenient to use compared to washable options. Below are things to consider when buying them:
Thickness
The thickness of the pads will influence the amount of liquid that they can hold. If you tend to experience heavy flows, then you will need thick pads to prevent the discharge from overflowing and staining your clothes. However, these will be easy to spot if you are wearing tight clothes so you should consider wearing loose clothing when going out. If you have regular flow, then you might be able to switch to ultra thin pads. It may also be feasible to switch to panty liners during the tail end of the period for freedom of movement and greater comfort.
Design
These pads come in different shapes and sizes. Most are semi-rectangular with curved edges for good coverage while preventing skin irritation from sharp corners. This is fine for most people. However, some often see a bit of spillover to their underwear because they move around a lot during the day or they favor one side when they sleep. This makes washing a bit of a chore. Stains could be difficult to remove as well. If you have this problem, then look up pads with wings that can wrap around the panties for added protection.
Material
Lastly, check out the materials used in these pads as some might feel better than others. These also come in multiple layers with the top layer being the most vital for user comfort. Examples of the materials include cotton, cellulose wood pulp, polypropylene, polyethylene, and so on. If you experience any skin irritation, then switch to a different brand right away. You should also check how well the outer layer is able to wick away the moisture. This helps the skin stay dry and comfortable despite all-day discharge. Some adhesives are also more effective in securing the pads than others. They may have wider strips or better formulations.
