If you’re a writer interested in writing for children, then you’re not alone. There are numerous writers that enjoy writing material geared at young, inquisitive minds. If you’re going to be writing how to books for kids and you’re trying to determine some topics, the sky is the limit. Children are so eager to learn just about anything, and as long as you’re having fun while you’re writing the books, you can choose the topics that you desire.
Narrowing down your ideas
Before you can narrow down your ideas, you first need to choose an age group to focus on. If you prefer writing for young infants and toddlers, then the material is obviously going to be completely different than if you opt to write for 4th or 5th graders. Once you’ve decided on an age group, you can then think of several possibilities that children in that age group would like. For instance, if you choose 10-year-olds, you might want to write a book teaching children how to cook, how to wear a training bra (for girls), or how to manage a lemonade stand. Think about the possibilities and decide which topic you think would be most desired among children and then start writing.
Ask around
You might also opt to interview children in the actual age group that you’ve chosen. If the age group you’ve chose is children too young to provide answers, then of course you’ll have to interview their parents or another knowledgeable family member. It doesn’t matter if you seek answers from children in your neighborhood, at a nearby park or someplace else. If you approach random children, you might find that it’s not a good idea to simply approach them. Their parents might become suspicious and could wrongly accuse you of stalking their children or being a possible pedophile, so be careful.
Conduct research online
The sky is the limit when it comes to finding useful information online. By conducting a simple search, you can find an abundance of information on how to books for kids, which could help inspire you on certain topics.
Whether you ultimately decide to write books for infants or teenagers, you have the option of writing on just about any topic that you desire. Children of all ages want to learn new things, and by simply writing what you love, you’re nearly guaranteed to find the perfect audience.
