The widespread Covid 19 pandemic has made everyone in the world realize the importance of maintaining social distance, wearing masks, and cleaning ones hands after they have touched any surface on which the virus can be present. When it is not possible to be in a place where you can wash your hands in all situations, the use of hand sanitisers has helped to overcome this problem.
Health authorities still suggest washing your hands washing your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds is best, especially if you have been coughing or sneezing. As an alternative, an alcohol based sanitiser can act as equally efficient substitute. As per the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention preventive action to stop the spread of the disease is best, until and even after the developed vaccines are given to all people.
This sanitiser must have an ethyl alcohol content of at least 60 percent and 70 percent if the use is made of isopropyl alcohol. Other ingredients that make up this sanitiser that are approved are glycerin and hydrogen peroxide. Methanol or I-propanol are toxic and must be avoided. The sanitiser must be packaged in containers that are properly labelled, avoiding containers that normally are used for packaging food. Some hand sanitisers available in the market contain benzalkonium chloride but this is not as effective as an alcohol based sanitiser.
Sanitisers must only be used when it is is not possible to approach a facility that allows you to wash your hands with soap and water. There are many brands of hand sanitisers available in the market today, some of which contain over 70 percent of ethyl alcohol, and are among the best, but always check alcohol content which must never be less than 60 percent. Most hand held sanitisers also include essential oils that impart a fragrance to the sanitiser, and give the buyer a lot of variety in choosing one that has a favorite scent.
You can also make your own sanitiser if you can put together the necessary ingredients and here use can be made of aloe gel instead of any other additive. Blend the mixture well and take care to fill it in a sprayer or bottle that has been clearly marked as a hand sanitiser. Health authorities still suggest that you wash your hands with soap and water, and only use hand sanitisers as an option when you are travelling.
