It’s a double whammy these days with the pandemic and the winter keeping people inside. Adults can understand what’s happening and exercise greater patience. However, children tend to get restless and yearn for an outlet. Parents can help their little ones cope with the season through creative indoor activities for kids. Consider the following ideas and add some more of your own:
Target Golf
If you have some cardboard boxes lying around, then you can help your kids practice their strokes. Cut out rectangles of different widths on one side of the box. Assign scores on each hole with the narrowest one rewarding the highest points because of the degree of difficulty. The household can play a double round-robin or other tournament arrangements. It may look simple but this can be a challenging and addictive game.
Balloon Tennis
If you have leftover balloons from past parties, then you can use them now for balloon tennis. Instead of rackets, you can just use fly swatters to keep the balloons up in the air. Play this somewhere with minimal clutter on the floor for safety. A tidy living room might do. Just put the coffee table off to the wall so that you don’t trip over it.
Playhouse Fun
Do you miss camping outdoors? Then try to do it indoors using one of your tents. This can also become the kids’ playhouse where they can bring all of their toys and books to hang out. You could even set up a small picnic table or a cozy campfire for indoor s’mores. If you don’t have a tent, then you can use PVC pipes or pool noodles for framing. Bedsheets or curtains can be used for the walls of the playhouse.
Indoor Climbing
The kids may be missing the playground and the trees at the local parks. Give them their own playground complete with an indoor activities for kids. You can buy climbing holds online and install those on wooden boards. Consult online resources on how to do this safely and effectively. Don’t forget to place thick cushions at the bottom of the climbing walls to catch them if they fall.
Cardboard Castle
If you have a lot of cardboard boxes lying around, then you might even be able to build your cardboard castle. Add towers, gates, ladders, and platforms. Paint the front to enhance the look. You can also build cardboard ships, cars, buses, trucks, and trains.
