When it comes to starting a bar, everyone has to start somewhere. It means dealing with finances, making sure that all of the licenses have been taken care of, and that the building is ready to go. That last one can be difficult to deal with because there are so many possible options, between the décor and the basic bar supplies needed. While the décor is up to the individual, the supplies themselves are pretty basic; it is usually just a matter of deciding on a supplier. It is just a matter of deciding on a supplier and which supplies are actually going to be used.
The Extreme Basics
Every bar needs glasses and beer dispensers. It also needs a way to deal with ice and some sort of refrigeration systems. Once those basics have been dealt with the bar owner has a wide variety of options; it is more a matter of deciding what the bar concept is more than anything else. Consider toothpicks; while there are simple wooden ones, there are also a lot of different plastic ones as well. While it is easy to default to the wooden variety, sometimes a plastic sword or pick would do better. Most of the decisions are pretty much based on that.
Having Fun With Bar Supplies
It may sound strange, but with a strong concept, it is easy to decide on the right bar supplies. Once that decision is made all of the other ones fall into place; it determines how the food is delivered, and fun glasses, and even which sort of cutlery will be used. This will make it easier to go through a catalog or talk to a representative; it provides a much-needed focus to any purchases that are going to be made. Once the concept has been settled on, then every other decision is actually pretty simple.
Which bar supplies are purchased will usually be divided into those that are permanent and only need to be bought to replace lost or damaged items, and those that will be replaced on a regular basis, such as napkins and toothpicks; your inventory sheets should be organized with that in mind. Once you have that organized and the supplies on the way, most of the battle has been fought and it is just a matter of making sure everything is organized. With the right supplies, your bar is ready to go, and just needs customers.
